Aluminum Lovers, Arandell Products remained largely a mystery until recently! Thanks to the Rubin family and the wonders of the internet, we now have updated background on Arandell.
An Arandell Products Co. shipping label on a Silver Forest aluminum tree identifies Arandell Products Co. as “Manufacturers of Knitted Cords and Rope.” The listed address of 3915 Powelton Avenue is the same listed for Harry Rubin and Son, manufacturers of textiles and toys. With Arandell, we have still yet another example of a Jewish family in the aluminum Christmas tree business.
Previously, this was all the info found on Arandell. One of the driving forces in building this site was to cast a wide, highly visible net with which to find people who have some connection to the aluminum Christmas tree industry. Now, we know that Harry Rubin and Son is indeed the family of Arandell. Knitted cords and rope were for the manufacture of jump ropes and yo-yo’s! Also in their product offerings were red net Christmas stockings containing small toys. Thanks to the darling little girl in the lead photo, we have connected the dots on the background of Arandell.
The Aluminum Forest also recently got the scoop on the origin of the Arandell name. According to the Rubin family, Arandell is derived from the ‘Son’ in ‘Harry Rubin & Son.’ Harry and Helen Rubin’s 2 sons were Robert and Lenny. R and L: Arandell! Robert and Lenny took over the company after the death of their father in 1956.
The 4-story, old factory building at 3915 Powelton Ave was knocked down in the mid-1970’s, when the property was sold to the Daniel Keating Corp.
The Aluminum Forest thanks both sides of the ‘& Son’ Rubin family for their gifts of memories, facts and photos!
Known models of Arandell trees include the Silver Glow, Silver Forest and Swirl. The Aluminum Forest is home to an Arandell P-6 Swirl (pom, 6-foot), with detachable red poms, shown below. This special tree is the subject of a video on pom restoration by The Aluminum Forest:
We are also pleased to share the Blue-Green color combo:
Although company information is scarce at this time, it seems Arandell had a foothold on the Christmas tree industry. Examples of Arandell trees do come up for sale from time to time.
